High-Isolation PCS Duplexer Fits UMTS Band 2 Handsets
The ACMD-7407 miniature PCS duplexer from Avago Technologies targets use in UMTS Band 2 handsets. Designed using the company’s FBAR technology, it’s 33% smaller than its predecessors and has a common footprint. It’s designed for use in PCS handsets as well as data terminals operating on the U.S. PCS frequency band.
According to Avago, the ACMD-7407 is a low-insertion-loss, high-isolation duplexer that was developed using the company’s Microcap bonded-wafer chip-scale packaging technology. Thanks to this process, the device can be assembled in a molded chip-on-board module that’s less than 0.9 mm high with a footprint of 2.0 by 2.5 mm.
Additionally, the ACMD-7407 enhances the sensitivity and dynamic range of PCS receivers by providing more than 55-dB isolation of the transmitted signal at the receiver input and more than 47-dB rejection of transmit-generated noise in the receive band, enabling the removal of interstage transmit and receive filters, the company says.
The duplexer provides one of the industry’s best insertion loss capabilities to minimize power consumption and achieve superior receiver sensitivity, Avago says. The 2.7-dB maximum insertion loss in the transmit channel minimizes current drain from the power amplifier. The 3.2-dB maximum insertion loss improves receiver sensitivity.
The superior power-handling capability of the FBAR bulk-mode resonators supports the high output power levels needed in PCS handsets while adding virtually no distortion, according to Avago. The ACMD-7407 provides a maximum transmit power of +33 dBm. Environmentally friendly, it complies with the European Union’s Restrictions on Hazardous Substances and is halogen- and TBBPA-free.
Available now, the ACMD-7407 starts at $1.99 in quantities of 10,000 units.
